Virtual Writing Room
The Virtual Writing Room is a minimally structured, daily service for graduate students. The aim of the VWR is to give you time to "get away" and work on your writing project, in the quiet company of others. Bring a coffee, make progress on your project, and enjoy virtual community with other grad writers!

How the Virtual Writing Room Works:
- A Graduate Writing Consultant sets up the virtual writing room in Zoom and is present for the duration of the writing time.
- During writing time, participants will mute their audio. Participants can choose whether they want to leave their video on (to see other humans and be seen by other humans) or turn their video off (but stay in the room).
- At the start of quiet writing time, you will be asked to set a writing goal or intention for the time you are in the room. You'll write down your goal in the Zoom chat interface.
- After you set your goal, get to work.
- During the writing time, you can ask the Graduate Writing Consultant facilitator for a short writing consultation. They will set up a Breakout Room in Zoom for short consultations. The facilitator can help you work through a stuck point, check the clarity of what you've written so far, or talk with you about your writing process.
- Towards the end of the writing time, the Graduate Writing Consultant will check in with the group about their writing goals, and talk with you about potentially useful strategies.
- By the end, you'll have made progress on your project and can go about the rest of your day!
There's no RSVP or commitment required for the Virtual Writing Room, just come and work!
