Undergraduate Student Services

Writing Hub undergraduate services expand and enhance students' learning through and success with writing. By giving students a place to engage with writing as writing, outside of substantive course content, the Writing Hub leverages existing writing assignments in students’ coursework for personalized learning interactions that promote deep learning and engagement.

The Writing Hub serves over 4,300 unique students each year through our one-on-one consultations, writing-focused workshops, and collaborations with campus partners.

One-On-One Writing Consultations

Undergraduate writing consultations engage students in their writing assignments and non-course related writing projects (such as statements of purpose for postgraduate study, cover letters, publications, etc.). Peer consultants aim to give students personalized and actionable feedback through conversation and supportive questioning.

Writing Workshops

Workshops are short, interactive sessions that introduce students to tips, tricks, and strategies for academic writing projects. We offer workshops that address particular courses, that clarify particular genres (such as personal statements and research proposals), and that explore general topics related to writing in college (such as paraphrasing, revising a paper, and writing on the quarter system.

Our workshops are designed for all levels of confidence and experience with academic writing, and explore topics relevant to all majors and writing programs. To see our workshop offerings this quarter, visit our current undergraduate workshop calendar page.

Collaborations and Partnerships

We partner with units and departments across campus to offer writing support that is tailored to the context/needs of our partners. In these partnerships, we first strive to understand our partners' unique circumstances and goals, and work collaboratively to develop services that further those goals.

We have ongoing collaborations with:

  • Instructors and departments to run in-class workshops on a variety of writing topics.
  • The college writing programs to share information and support the unique learning outcomes of each program.
  • Academic Enrichment Programs to run workshops and provide writing support for students pursuing academic opportunities and research scholarships.
  • Campus community centers to support their efforts related to cultivating student success and support around writing and key writing projects.
  • The Academic Integrity Office to run workshops on effectively citing and paraphrasing original sources.
  • College residential life programs to support in-community programs related to writing.
  • And more!

We would be happy to collaborate with you! If you would like to work with us to develop a writing-related collaboration for your unit, course, or department, please reach out to us here
