Why Writing Matters to Me (and Why I Think it Should Matter to You)
Writing is one of the core tools we use to express ourselves, communicate with others, and share stories with one another. It can be a deeply personal and reflective process or a way to share and connect with others. I look forward to working with UCSD students to improve their relationships with writing, mainly because it will prove useful no matter how they decide to use it!

Sarah's pronouns: she/her

As the Graduate Writing Tutor Coordinator at the Teaching and Learning Commons, Sarah empowers Graduate Tutors and equips them with the tools they need to best serve the diverse graduate student population at UCSD. As a graduate of Claremont McKenna College (CMC) with degrees in Literature and Spanish, Sarah has always had a passion for writing in either language, and she has worked enthusiastically with university students over the years to help develop this important skill.

Being a first-generation Latina and college student have greatly informed Sarah’s approach to education and her dedication to working towards equity in the field. During her time as a Head Consultant at CMC’s Writing Center, she actively sought out ways to collaborate with identity-based affinity groups on campus to help underrepresented students feel safe and supported in the Center. As an English Teaching Assistant with Fulbright, Sarah spent two years in Mexico at the Tecnológico Nacional de México Campus Apizaco and Instituto de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo. During this time especially, she put her multicultural competencies to practice as she worked with university students and professional staff to improve their verbal, written, and cultural English skills.

Sarah is excited to serve UCSD’s vibrant community through her time at Writing and Communication Learning Services! She is committed to continuous learning and collaboration, and will center accessibility and EDI-focused approaches to the services offered in her role. In her free time, she enjoys reading and writing something new, cooking her grandmother’s recipes, visiting local bookstores, or crafting something new.
